Learning and Academic Emphasis Our academic program is designed to provide students with the support and opportunities they need to achieve personal goals. During the parent-student interview previous scholastic records, employment history and post secondary aspirations are considered to create an Annual Education Plan. Where additional information is required, students will complete a series of assessments and/or meet with an educational consultant to investigate learning challenges. Courses are offered in several ways. Our classroom credits (see schedule last page) are offered over a 9 week term; one subject in the morning session, the second in the afternoon. Students may elect to enroll in only one classroom based course and earn a second credit through *Cooperative Learning Placements or *Night School and Weekend. In some cases, students may use this flexibility to engage in a part-time job. Foundation Skills Teacher Feedback and Support Communication Experiential and Outside the Classroom Learning
Personal Development, Community Interaction and Life Skills Our academic system provides a structure and methodology so that students learn how to set and achieve goals and reach for their potential. We are equally committed to non-academic aspects of a young person’s development. We maintain a positive and safe environment and expose students to the world outside the classroom: the beauty, ugliness, waste and possibilities in their communities. Our teachers and support staff have been hired with equal consideration for their character, experience and their ability to teach. There will be many academic and non-academic opportunities where students will develop leadership, self-reliance and social skills. They will be exposed to many new experiences and will be supervised so that the positive aspects and lessons can make an impact. All students will be required to participate in monthly School Outreach Programs in addition to those community hours required for the Ontario Diploma. The school maintains a 400 acre Outdoor Centre in northeastern Ontario, near Bancroft. Students participate in various programs over the year and benefit from the conservation, recreation and specialty courses available. Our individual approach attracts students with various academic abilities and post secondary ambitions.
