You will be able to spend more than half of the day at various sports and
recreational activities while exploring the city. Toronto has hundreds of
miles of bike paths and hiking trails. One of the course objectives is to
create a map that describes the local parks, paths and trails. Students may
be exposed to introductory lessons in: climbing, yoga, sailing, swimming and
diving, jogging, martial arts, tennis, golf and almost any other activity of
interest.
Group projects, activities and sports will also be included. Basketball,
baseball, soccer, beach volleyball and other favorites will be highlighted.
A special Olympics games section will also be featured. Students will be
expected to take a general coaching course. This course is excellent
preparation for students who may want to work as camp councellors, guides or
in leadership roles. It is also a way of improving your communications
skills and increasing your understanding and empathy of others. Along the
way you will learn about yourself and develop ways to stay in shape, and
enhance your relationships on a personal and professional level.
- Learn new outdoor & sports skills and improve your physical fitness.
- Understand strategies that promote safety and prevent injuries.
- Work effectively in a group and develop strategies that promote healthy
relationships.
- Learn decision-making and goal-setting skills to enhance your life.
Students will be encouraged to develop personal competence in a variety of
movement skills, and will be given opportunities to practice goal-setting,
decision-making, coping, social, and interpersonal skills. Students will
also study the components of healthy relationships, reproductive health,
mental health, and personal safety.
