There is only one subject - and it is life!
The Living Education Institute
The Living Education Institute (LEI) is a Toronto based non profit organization founded in 1997. Our goal is to train educators to deliver education that promotes self discovery, environmental awareness, and social responsibility.
Eco Leadership & Mindfulness
Eco-Leadership is a relatively new term. It is based on the
understanding of four interrelated concepts:
• How people understand the world around themselves,
and themselves within the world
• How nature works
• How our society and economy ("human systems") depend on
clean air, water, soil, and other resources
(products of "natural systems")
• How human interactions with the environment can have both
positive and negative impacts on people
and the natural world
We will explore concepts of self and the interconnectedness of the natural world.
Preconceived notions of how we value and prioritize different ways of learning, and look
at what nature is, and learn to think about it, and ourselves with a refreshing perspective.
Mindful Eco Leadership Professional Development & Certification
This March Break, we invite you to join us for a 6-day experiential professional devel-
opment opportunity in beautiful Montezuma, Costa Rica near the ocean. We will em-
ploy principles from Eco Leadership, with mindful teaching practices. We will also share
self-care and compassion tools to benefit you in your personal and professional lives.
Course Overview: This retreat involves experiential activities with an exploration of
mindful leadership including: meditation, nature, expression, movement, profession-
al dialogue and reflection. You will leave with practical skills to use in your classroom
and school to support a mindful teaching practice, a manual of the key teachings and
specific practices and the support of like-minded educators.
“If you want to go quicker–go alone; if you want to go further–go together.”
Our Leadership Style
You will be challenged, delighted and surprised with our dynamic, participatory, personal, and wisdom based approach. Trainings included readings, lectures, discussion, exercises, and guest presenters. Improvisational acting, yoga, tai chi, and music are among the activities offered throughout our programs.
If there is one thing that I know it is that in order to be free you must know yourself. That in self-knowledge comes the wisdom, and the guidance, to create the life you want to live. This is, and has always been, a challenging process. The people with whom you engage on this journey are a crucial component of the success of the program. By utilizing the creative force within each of us we progress far faster, and further than us as individuals. As the old African saying goes:
